This April, our IT colleague Matt will be running the iconic London Marathon to raise money for the charity ‘Ambitious about Autism’ — a cause that means a great deal to him and his family.
Matt is taking on the 26.2-mile challenge in support of autistic children and young people, including his son Rory, who is autistic. The charity works to create a world where autistic young people can thrive, providing education opportunities, employment support, and advocacy for families.
Speaking about the challenge, Matt said the charity’s mission resonates deeply with his family.
“Ambitious about Autism is a cause very close to our hearts. Our son Rory is autistic, and every mile I run will be for him and for all the young people like him who deserve the right support to thrive.”
The charity also works to ensure the rights of autistic people are protected and supported — something Matt says is particularly important at a time when proposed government changes have created uncertainty for families like his.
Running a marathon is a huge personal challenge, but Matt says it’s nothing compared with the daily challenges faced by many autistic children and their families.
“Rory inspires us every day with his courage, curiosity, and joy. This run is a way to honour that and help build a future where every autistic person has the same chance to shine.”
Funds raised will go directly towards programmes that make a tangible difference, from specialist education and resources to campaigns that promote greater understanding and inclusion.
The team at Kirkman and Jourdain have already shown their support by sponsoring Matt and will be cheering him on every step of the way.
