Kirkman and Jourdain Ltd was first established in 1983 and soon became the ideal construction resource, capable of providing a total one-stop building, shopfitting and term, planned and responsive maintenance service.
In recent years, we’ve expanded our services to encompass an in-house mechanical and electrical services department that are GAS SAFE & NICEIC Registered.

We know our most important resource is our staff, from electricians and plumbers to carpenters, roofers and multi-trade operatives. With an experienced and motivated team, we are able to provide consistently good service project after project.
Our Head Office was initially based in Walthamstow, moving to our current location based in Waltham Abbey, Essex in 1990. We cover London and the South East of England and the types of work we undertake now comprise of:

Our History
Our unique company name
The company was originally owned by Mr John Jarvis. John had a passion for Ornithology (the study of birds) and he had a treasured bird book on the bookshelf in his office called ‘British Birds – A charming study and authoritative guide to British birds. This was composed by highly regarded author and ornithologist ‘F.B. Kirkman’, and ornithologist and oologist (study of bird eggs, nests and breeding behaviour) ‘F.C.R. Jourdain’ who was primarily known for his extensive research into the breeding biology of birds.
The book features 200 hundred coloured illustrations of birds. John felt this was a strong name to use as a tribute to his much loved hobby as they were established and distinguished authors. We still have this book in our head office as a reminder of our extraordinary company name.
